Coaster (Dip The Dips), Hastings Park, Vancouver, BC
Pictured above is Hastings Park's Coaster (Dip The Dips) that operated during the Vancouver Exhibition around 1915-1924. As with some of the early 1900's coasters that operated in Vancouver, there is not much known about this ride. The designer was possibly either Fred Ingersoll or John Miller. Vintage photos that were taken inside the Dips depicts it had a figure eight type of layout which was a typical Ingersoll concept. But the coaster also had many hills and drops that was a signature of many of John Miller's rides. It is purported that White City had acquired Coaster (Dips) in 1926. Prior to Happyland's existence, Hastings Park had a few amusement rides on its grounds such as a roller coaster, ferris wheel, and merry-go-round, but no real amusement park had been established yet. |
