Review:
I and a group of other coaster club attendees were priviledged to receive this one-of-a-kind video at a 2002 regional ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) event in Playland, Vancouver, BC. I am not sure who produced this piece but it offers some great footage of the building of the 1958 wooden Coaster at Playland in colorized home movie format.

Though the video is silent, it clearly depicts the beginning stages of Playland. Construction workers are shown raising the Coaster structure and walking the tracks from start to finish. They are seen building the station, testing the first single car over the track, and installing the first trains.

There is also footage of opening day and the midway section. Rides seen operating (at that time) were the: Rock-O-Plane, Whip, Scrambler, Caterpillar, Squirrel Cages, Round-Up, Roll-O-Plane, Dodgem Cars, Ferris Wheel, Merry-Go-Round, Fly-O-Plane, and Paratrooper.

The movie also shows the midway all lit up at night that seems to have captured the early magic of this park. Children and adults would wave at the camera while enjoying their ride on the Ferris Wheel, Merry-go-Round, or the Scrambler. This was definitely a different time and place in amusement history.

The video is a treasure and a keepsake.

[Note: There was not a cover on the tape so I created one that looks similar to the film's introduction scene that says, "PNE 1958".]
