Roller Coaster, Gayway Park, Seaside, OR

For about three decades Seaside, OR, operated a small amusement park called Gayway Park. Pictured above is a kiddie coaster that operated at that park in 1953. The park was known to have had an assortment of rides such as the Ferris Wheel, a Carousel, Octopus, Rock-O-Plane, and a Wild Mouse coaster.

In July 1978, I had the opportunity to visit this park. During this visit I saw the Wild Mouse running in all its glory out in a grassy field amongst the white sand. On a later visit in 1983, I learned that the park had been torn down to make room for a series of small shops as well as an arcade. Since then, the Trends West Resort has taken up residence in that location.

After speaking with a Seaside local in 2005, I was told the park had closed due to noise problems coming from the Wild Mouse when it had operated at night. I guess the neighbors and tourists nearby had gotten tired of hearing the loud noises and didn't have the patience to put up with it anymore. It was also considered an eyesore since the park was getting old.

Currently, I am reseraching more about this park and the Wild Mouse coaster. So, far, I have learned that photos of this ride are difficult if not impossible to locate. And, other locals either are not familiar of the parks' existence or have other opinions of its demise.
